What is Come to the Table?
Two Unique Opportunities
Come to the Table is an initiative led by Rev. Floyd Thompkins from St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City that seeks to bridge gaps and foster understanding between Marin City and the rest of Marin County. The project aims to dispel misconceptions about Marin City and create a space for open dialogue.
Come to the Table takes place the second Saturday of every month, with the exception of August. We're taking August off. Each evening is composed of two parts:
- Dinner & Conversation, an intimate dinner and conversation for 25 residents of Marin City and 25 residents of other Marin communities. Dinner is provided by local caterers and paid for by generous donors. RSVP is a must.*
- The Community Forum, open to all, featuring local and national experts focused on a range of topics that impact the community. RSVP is suggested.
- Event Calendar
*Seating is limited at Come to the Table Dinner & Conversation. To enable more people to experience a dinner, please plan to attend only one. But please do join us at any and all Community Forums where there is plenty of seating available.
More about Come to the Table
Strengthening Our Connections was held November 9th, 2023 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City and organized by the Marin City Ministerial Alliance. Pastor Floyd Thompkins of St. Andrew states the meeting was, “a day of conversation about supporting the residents of Marin City and addressing the issues of economic and racial inequalities.”
The lunch and meeting included thirty-three faith leaders from throughout Marin County and was meant to build relationships. Smaller groups were formed and then each group came together at the end for a larger discussion, based on what was learned by each group.
Marin City leaders were surprised that many Marin faith leaders admitted they were not aware of the most important issues currently being discussed and fought in Marin City. Ideas were discussed for how to address this lack of information. Come to the Table (CTTT) and the Marin City News newsletter was born to address the lack of knowledge in subsequent meetings. Both have proven to be very successful at educating those outside of Marin City and sometimes even those in Marin City on what’s happening in the small, but powerful community.
Come to the Table Community Forums are open to all. They feature inspirational Marin City leaders who have been instrumental in advocating for the rights and well-being of Marin City residents along with nationally recognized experts in the event topic. By sharing their perspectives and experiences, these leaders contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by Marin City and the potential solutions.
